Training Diary Week 2

This week, I joked to my boss that one of the reasons I like to run is in case I ever get into a dystopian, Squid Game-esque situation and my cardiovascular reserve is the thing that makes all the difference. Having said this, a rostered longday on Tuesday and late finishes for all the other workdays meant my Nike Vaporflys have pretty much been homebodies all week.

Total Distance Covered

15.4km. Very sad, but it could have been worse considering I also picked up an extra shift this week.

Run Breakdown

This week I started with a 3.3km slow run because I had an ache in my Achilles tendons, and I want to avoid flaring up paratendinopathy. Then I went for a (surprisingly) enjoyable 12.1km long run which gave me the opportunity to admire cute dogs from a MOH-abiding social distance (thus the zoomed and somewhat grainy photo).

Cross Training

Does watching the ‘Kipchoge: The Last Milestone’ documentary on YouTube while lying in bed count as cross-training? It was very inspiring, and fascinating to see how specifically they optimised every aspect of his performance to successfully run a sub-2 hour marathon. Kipchoge may not personally believe in limits, but I’m pretty sure I will never be able to zip along at his pace for even 1km let alone more than 40. Our slow-twitch fibres are just made of different stuff. But I plod on in hope.
