Training Diary Week 3

The tulips that the boyfriend helped me plant in April started blooming this week – just in time for our one-year anniversary. A sweet, bright reminder that you often can’t see growth on a day-to-day basis. And the best things take time.

Red and orange tulips wrapped in sustainable packaging
My home-grown tulips! Bulbs purchased from Mitre-10 on an impulsive shopping trip with the boyfriend (he is the loveliest and most supportive enabler of my gardening ventures).

Distance Covered

19 km. Better than last week, but only improved because my weekly long run is getting incrementally longer (yay).

Run Breakdown

A 5 km run early in the week, followed by a 14 km long run doing (many) laps around work. There weren’t many humans around (preferable in these CoVID times) but I did come across the odd startled pūkeko on my otherwise monotonous loops around the surgery centre.

Surprisingly, I thought the 5 km was done at a ‘recovery’ pace, but Strava tells me that the average pace for both runs were similar. I’m also not hating cutting down to two runs per week in periods when I’m working 6/7 days.

Cross Training

Nil cross training was done this week unless you count walking around the hospital wards (which I don’t).
