Training Diary Week 4 & 5

two dogs amongst a sea of legs

I’ve been a bit slack posting updates on how the training has been going – studying for the GSSE (General Surgical Science Examination) has been time-consuming and more than a little misery-inducing. But running has given me a reason to get outdoors, enjoy the patches of sunshine, and dogwatch at a local cafe. Can’t wait for the day when I have a boisterous Hungarian vizsla that can come along on (food) runs.

Distance Covered

In week 4, a total of 17.5 km.

In week 5, a total of 20 km.

Run Breakdown

Week 4: a 5.5 km followed by a very wet long run of 12 km. I am not one of those weird humans who likes running in the rain, but mother nature does not give two hoots about my running goals.

Week 5: a 5.6 km post-work jog; and an 8.2 km run to a local café for a tuna melt croissant and apple juice followed by a slower 6.2 km jog home. I’ll admit I kind of cheated my weekly long run by doing it in two parts. But running towards an edible treat made the run more enjoyable! Maybe I’ll couple my running and supporting local business endeavours more often from now on. Stay tuned for unsolicited pastry pics.

Cross Training

Nil. Should I just get rid of this section in the training diary posts…
